Positive Psychology
in business life

What is Positive Psychology about?

Positive Psychology explores the scientific question of how people can flourish, develop their full potential and grow sustainably.

Unlike classical psychology, which focuses primarily on correcting deficits (“Fix what's wrong”), Positive Psychology asks: “How can we achieve a fulfilling life?”

Martin Seligman, one of the founders of the field, describes five central pillars of well-being in his PERMA formula:

  • Positive Emotions – cultivating and consciously savoring uplifting emotions in daily life

  • Engagement – fully immersing yourself in activities that draw on and develop your personal strengths

  • Relationships – building and nurturing supportive, meaningful connections with others

  • Meaning – finding a sense of purpose and belonging beyond oneself

  • Achievement – setting and intentionally reaching meaningful goals

When people experience these elements in their daily lives, their overall well-being increases significantly — a finding supported by numerous scientific studies.

Positive psychology in business life

Why is Positive Psychology (PP) relevant for organizations?

We spend many years of our lives working – yet, according to recent studies ( e.g., the Gallup Engagement Study - State of the Global Workplace ), engagement is steadily declining in numerous companies worldwide. More and more employees feel emotionally disconnected, are just doing their work by the book, or are actively job hunting. The result: high levels of sickness absence, lost productivity, and resignations.

This is where positive psychology comes into play in the corporate context: through targeted interventions – for example, in the context of leadership development or team support – motivation, collaboration and mental health can be measurably increased.

What are the benefits of positive leadership?

Positive leadership is based on the principles of Positive Psychology. Leaders who embrace these principles create work environments in which employees not only "function," but feel effective, seen, and meaningful.

The advantages at a glance:

  • Higher commitment and lower fluctuation

  • More creativity and innovation

  • Stronger emotional bond to the company

  • Reduced absenteeism and burnout risks

  • A measurably positive impact on corporate success and culture
